As a result, in addition to the previously supported Azure Application Gateway, WafCharm can now also operate Azure's WAF (Azure Web Application Firewall, hereinafter referred to as "Azure WAF") on Azure Front Door. By using WafCharm in an Azure Front Door environment, you can achieve both enhanced security for your web applications and high-speed content delivery.

■ Development Background
As cloud computing becomes more widespread, more and more companies are publishing websites and services on Microsoft Azure. On the other hand, attacks targeting web applications are increasing and becoming more sophisticated year by year, and the adoption of Azure WAF is becoming the mainstream countermeasure.

Azure WAF can be deployed using "Azure Front Door" or "Azure Application Gateway." Of these, Azure Front Door is a CDN (Content Delivery Network) service that leverages edge locations around the world to deliver content at high speed. Because it distributes access to servers around the world, it is expected to mitigate the impact of some DDoS attacks that attempt to disrupt web services by sending a large volume of traffic.
Due to these features, an increasing number of companies across a wide range of industries and sectors are looking to implement Azure WAF using Azure Front Door, including global web services that provide services to a wide range of regions both domestically and internationally, e-commerce and media sites that want to deliver content such as images and videos at high speed, and sales and campaign sites.

Previously, WafCharm only supported Azure Application Gateway, but in response to customer requests, we have now added support for Azure Front Door as well.

This update allows you to apply WafCharm directly to Azure Front Door. In configurations combining Azure Front Door and Azure Application Gateway, applying WafCharm to both provides a "two-tiered" security system, further enhancing the security level of your website and web systems.

At the Azure Front Door entry point, WafCharm 's automated IP blocklist blocks suspicious access entirely by IP address. Because it blocks based on the source IP address rather than on a request basis, it more effectively prevents access from malicious sources.

Access that passes through Azure Front Door is further inspected by WafCharm 's WAF rules on the inner Azure Application Gateway. Standard WAF rules and custom rules created by WafCharm support to suit the characteristics of your website and web service are used to thoroughly examine the content of access and block suspicious access.

With the ability to apply WafCharm to Azure Front Door, which handles high-speed content delivery, a two-tiered approach is now possible. This allows attacks that bypass WAF rules to be blocked at the entry point, thus more effectively protecting websites and web services.

Furthermore, since WafCharm can be used in configurations consisting of Azure Front Door only, Azure Application Gateway only, or a combination of both, you can flexibly enhance the security operations of your web applications according to your environment and objectives.
